Executing A Chic Valentine’s Day Wedding

Tips from some of our approved suppliers

We love hearts, love and flowers all year round but if you are thinking of celebrating your wedding on the most romantic day of the year, we’ve put together a guide to keep your Valentine’s Day wedding stylish and chic.

Tips from wedding photographer, Kerry Ann Duffy

"Weddings are all about love and what better day to celebrate this than on Valentine's Day! There are so many ways you could add a nod to St Valentine - and it can be as subtle or as outlandish as you like. Even if you didn't want to have a 'red theme', there are so many other ways that it can be included and celebrated, such as single rose favours, table plans or a heart on your shoe".

Florals for a Valentine's Day Wedding

"When considering your florals, don't automatically assume that love is only represented by the traditional red rose. We love to weave them in or design romantic florals based on in season flowers, such as early spring blooms. Combine roses with blush anemones and wine-coloured hellebores. Pairing a soft romantic look with blush tones with reds and burgundy works so well for a Valentine's Day wedding look" - Sophie Griffiths / Idyllic Days

Valentine's Day themed wedding stationery

Stationery can be themed subtly to incorporate your Valentine's wedding date. Theme your seating plan and 'on the day' stationery by considering colours, wording and shapes of your pieces. A small heart-shaped place setting card with guests' names in beautiful Calligraphy works oh-so stylishly.

Don't forget the wedding party

Let's face it, flower girls always look gorgeous. But bringing in the heart-shaped florals for that added cute factor takes things to a whole new level. Stylist Sophie adds, "A heart shaped twig form with added foliage or floral accent finished with deep wine red silk ribbons works beautifully for little ones to carry. A Gypsophelia heart shape instead of a traditional posy also looks super cute". - Sophie Griffiths / Idyllic Days

Adult bridesmaids look great in a neutral base with bolder accents through the florals and silk ribbons. Asking your make up artist to finish their look with a bold lip and matching nail colour allows the consistency to flow through both your wedding party and decor look. Stylist, Sophie adds "Sharing the mood board and colour palette with your chosen team can help ensure everyone has the same vision. Using cascading silk or velvet ribbons from Silk and Purl helps carry the colours through in a visually appealing way. I love seeing the ribbons dancing in the breeze; it really adds movement to the photographs".

Love lighting

Light it up with suspended quotes and neon lettering. Idyllic has a choice of cool signs which look great at the end of the aisle and against our barn walls for the perfect photo backdrop. Where would you have yours?

Photographer, Rafe Abrook offers this advice; "Weddings are all about love on the other 364 days each year also, so don’t overthink it. Make sure the personal touches remain consistent with your theme. Given the time of year, make sure you have a wedding photographer who is adept at using flash, as it will be dark by 5pm!"
